Xbox Live is the name of the online service of Microsoft that supports multiplayer games for Xbox 360 platforms and Windows Vista. The service is free and Silver Gold is a subscription cost per user as high, regardless they are in the same console. The contents are paid separately. The service was launched on March 14, 2002, achieving great success at its premiere. Currently includes more than 12 million registered users and is available in several languages.

Xbox Live features (specific to the Xbox 360)

With the launch of Xbox LIVE on Xbox 360, Xbox LIVE underwent some changes. The most notable was the creation of two types of accounts, called Silver and Gold. Xbox LIVE Silver is free to all Xbox 360 players. Although not an option for online play, the Silver account you can still access other features such as friends list, messaging and online access to Xbox Live Bazar. Xbox LIVE Gold, which requires monthly or annual subscription provides access to all online options of Xbox LIVE.

Options Xbox LIVE:
Gamer tags to identify the user.
Avatars, or images of the user to characterize the gamer tag.
Slogans or phrases for further characterization of user account.
Play areas which represent the user’s style of game (Fun, Expert, Family, Underground).
Access to change your gamer tag for 800 Microsoft Points.
The scores are saved or achievements to be able to compare them with friends and other users.
The possibility of a “reputation score” which is voted on by other players.
Scores which are the game’s total achievement by the player.
Friends list, which is organized list that shows the players do friends.
Recent players list, which shows the last 50 users who have played.

In addition, as of May 7 of 2007 Xbox LIVE account with the integration of Windows Live Messenger. As of May 17 of 2007 Xbox LIVE can only be used for genuine and unmodified consoles in the reader with the modified firmware. Otherwise you risk being expelled.
